Recently I’ve had a burning desire to move into a new career field and pondered real estate off and on for many years, but my regimented personality has held me back. The uncertainties fall outside of my general risk margin but the fire inside me keeps burning. What’s the missing piece that will give me the push I so very much need? Or that I think I need? I want to run with my passion but my fears are holding me back.
New Career Seeker
Dear New Career Seeker,
You are in the right place. In the last 3 years I’ve ventured in to multiple career fields. My husband once asked me, “Will you just make a decision and stick with it”? My reply was a simple, “No”. How would I know if a path was meant for me If I didn’t explore it at all?
I hear you saying that you are generally not a risk taker and you like structure and routine however, you have a desire to pursue real estate and you can’t kick it. Since these two factors are you biggest concerns, why don’t you sit down with a pen and paper and make two columns:
New Career: Possibility vs. Risk
The first column write down the potential and foreseeable risks associated with the career change. In the second column, next to each risk, write a Y, N, or P. Y for yes, N for No, and P for possibly. You are essentially determining if you can accept that risk. Factors to consider are; finances, lifestyle, time, and your personality and always consult your gut instinct. It’s different than a feeling, it’s story that won’t let you quit reading.

Is the possibility of succeeding in real estate more important to me than remaining in my current situation?
