Someone once told me that when two men fight the one with the most heart will usually win. Could it be will and determination and the resolve to succeed? Or could we possibly confront something bigger than us solely with a strong heart and even stronger faith in God?
Here are just three of the many faithful people we see fight with the power of God and nothing else-
- The Israelites were small in number yet drove out 7 nations in order to enter their promise land. “The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other people, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you’re from the land of slavery and the power of Pharaoh King of Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)
- David, a young shepherd boy fights the largest man alive, an egotistical Philistine. No one else had the courage but David did. He basically told everyone “hey, don’t worry about this guy, I’ll go fight him,” and as the crowd gathered around, including his older brothers who mocked him, David told Goliath the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.” With one stone he struck the giant down and killed him. (1 Samuel 17)
- Gideon and his army fought and won the Battle against Midian. What’s crazy is his army started with 32,000 soldiers yet decreased to 300. The decrease in his army was due to most of the soldiers being afraid of their opponent’s size, which was 135,000 strong. God instructed Gideon to weed out the weak at heart and keep the faithful and chosen 300. (Judges 7)
What did the Israelites, David, and Gideon have in common?
They had Faith, a strong heart, & certainty of God’s guidance.
They were supernaturally victorious which is exactly what God wanted. Rather than boasting of our own success and/or capabilities, He orchestrates events that we couldn’t possibly take the credit for. When we feel inadequate and incapable, is the best time for God to reveal his Power and love.
Dear Lord, create in me a pure heart, a strong heart, a healed heart. Give me a confidence that only you can give. Build in me a faith that is unwavering no matter what’s popular, what makes sense, or what feels right. You are all knowing and powerful and I’m so grateful you’re my Father. Always, I can count on you.
